Thoughts on a virtual trip based on an actual itinerary, reflecting on how it might be better, my thoughts, and a few statistical numbers
My virtual trip concludes: a United flight from Newark to Tampa, and then car service back to my home in Venice.
The final stage of my virtual journey, the return flights back from Malta, through Frankfurt, to Newark. Still not home, but a lot closer...
Final full day on Malta, I took the bus to the old capital of Mdina, and the neighboring Rabat. Many historic old sites and great vistas.
A day trip while in Malta to the island of Gozo. Bus from Valletta to Ċirkewwa, a ferry to Mġarr and a tour bus for several hours and stops
Virtual day spent exploring the capital city of Malta: Valletta. Walking the spit of land between two harbors, many sites and memorials seen
Departing Sicily, I took the ferry to Valletta, Malta. An easy day with long walks first in Pozzallo, then in Valletta. Great wine tasting.
Southeastern Sicily: Sunday in Siracusa. Many sights on Ortigia, including the cathedral; then inland to archeological heaven, plus basilica
Eastern Sicily and the city of Catania, brimming with history. The cathedral and its predecessor; opera house tour; two guided walking tours
Visiting the interior of Sicily, an afternoon in Caltanissetta. Church and cathedral, opera house and pizza for dinner.
A second day in Agrigento, with an exploration of the Valley of the Temples. Then walked to Villaseta to visit the co-cathedral. Dinner out.
Down to southern Sicily, the train brings me to Agrigento, a very old place.Home of cathedrals (current, co-, ex-), a nice warm & sunny day.
A second day in Palermo, with a trip out to visit the cathedral in Monreale. Return for the cathedral in Palermo, followed by 2 guided walks
Checked out the train ferry in Messina, then boarded for Cefalù to visit cathedral and shoreline. On to Palermo for the co-cathedral & sites
After Mass at the Reggio Calabria cathedral, I headed to the port to board a ferry to Messina in Sicily. Two cathedrals seen, then to a pub.
Virtual trip heads to the toe of the Italian peninsula. Took a train to Policastro-Bussentino to see the cathedral; then to Reggio Calabria
What a spectacular day! Being driven to nine cathedrals on the Amalfi Coast including traveling along the coast road
Leaving Potenza by train for Campania and Salerno for two days. After the cathedral, up to the castle, down to the garden and an aqueduct.
Virtual trip has its last stop in Apuglia in Taranto for two contrasting cathedrals; then on to Potenza in Basilicata and its cathedral.
Down into the "boot" of Italy, from Brindisi I made a quick trip to Lecce before returning. In both cities, the cathedral and historic sites
